Throne

Elm Park Primary

Posted on 25th May 2010

Transformed from a plain Tarmac playground to an exciting multi-featured area, at Elm Park we created five significant new structures/zones for a wide variety of play. Group play, outdoor storytelling, den-building and more…

A large 3x3m cargo net surrounded by 20 climbing poles and the raised ‘King’s Castle’ claim the focal points of this compact playground.

Beneath the King’s Castle children can control the flows of water through the interactive three-tiered water feature, perfect for small groups. Next to this are two tipis, designed for cladding with materials from a Playpod (TM) or equivalent. Adorning these structures (den-building) provides a great sense of ownership, achievement and teamwork. Having two tipis opens up many possibilities for role playing games!

The fantastical throne in the Storytelling area is a larger-than-life giant’s chair, perfect for captivating imagination during outdoor classroom sessions.

Spread across two main areas separated by the school yard, the playground is covered thick with woodchip for safety and freedom underfoot for children to play as they like, with no fear.
