Seeing as it was very cold in December, we thought we had better get a roof and some walls on the barn. It turns out that it’s far colder 5 metres up, and you get nice and personal with the biting wind! Still, nice views. And now, a nice roof! We used 5 metre lengths of waney-edged larch, quite a few deck-screws and fine balancing skills…
Please note the snow:

Jeremy leading by example…

Ben and Ollie refusing to get down…

95% of roof up, one section of wall done! Idyllic, no?

Wow this looks great! What wood are you using for the roofing?
Hi there,
Roof looks great! Anyone know why no one uses timber boards to clad roofs normally? I mean out buildings and the like. We’re thinking of it instead of split shingles to save time. Maybe the pitch has to be super steep as in this one!
We have built outdoor classrooms with a pitch of only 30 degrees (the one in the picture is 45 degrees), the larch boards are cheaper and quicker than shingles but not a nice looking! If you want any advice please get in touch.
